Smile Foundation raises support for education of the girl child through its initiative Ramp for Champs.
Smile Foundation, a national level development organization, showcased the seventh edition of its fundraiser Ramp for Champs on March 15, 2015 at Hotel Renaissance, Powai, with 50 participating achievers and personalities from all walks of life. With a special focus on education for the girl children, funds raised from Ramp for Champs will be utilized through Smile Foundation’s national level programme Mission Education.
The event started with a special performance by singer Abhiruchi Singh, who has dedicated a song “Udd Chali” to Smile Foundation’s girl child empowerment initiative. Singer Divya Kumar and choreographer-actor Ganesh Acharya also performed during the event.
The Ramp For Champs was presented by LIC of India. Huma Qureshi, who was the face of this initiative walked as the event show-stopper. She said, “Ramp for Champs is a wonderful opportunity for individuals like us to come forward and sensitize more people to be the change they wish to see in the world. Nearly 66 million girls in India are waiting to be in school. This event is a humble step towards spreading smiles amongst a few of them.”
Designer Archana Kochhar’s muses on the ramp included Huma Qureshi, Krishika Lulla, Urvashi Sharma (who walked with her daughters Parinishta and Samaira), Rashmi Desai, Aishwarya Sakhuja, Teejay Sidhu, Rajneesh Duggal, chef Vikas Khanna, Rahul Roy, Karan Tacker and Karanvir Bohra. Preety’s DesignHut had celebs flaunting traditional attire, and the list included Tapsee Pannu, VJ Andy, Chahat Khanna, Shibani Kashyap, Evelyn sharma and Mahaakshay Chakraborty.
Addressing on the occasion, Vikram Singh Verma, Chief Operating Officer, Smile Foundation said, “The privileged section of the society has to come forward and take a proactive role in the process of development.”
Smile Foundation is a national-level development organization currently reaching out to more than 300,000 children directly along with their families and the communities through 158 welfare projects on the issues of education, healthcare, livelihood, women empowerment and advocacy across 25 states of India.
