Dipali Sarin Bhasin’s upcoming fashion and lifestyle trunk show My Best Friend & Me at The Lalit New Delhi has built up quite a buzz, particularly on social media. And its quirky name definitely helps the cause! Turns out, the event is actually just that, something Dipali started with—you guessed it!—her best-friend.
Now in its fifth year, the show brings together various design houses under one roof. An event with its heart in the right place, Dipali offers free space to NGOs and socially responsible groups at her venues. The number has grown with each consecutive event and this time, she has 15 spots reserved for those fund-raising and selling for a cause. Starting as a private cocktail event with just one jewellery brand Aquamarine,
“I’m originally from Mumbai, which is more open to costume and non-branded jewellery. We decided to introduce the concept in Delhi, with Aquamarine, and started with a private evening over wine and cheese,” recalls Dipali. It has grown to accommodate 75 leading labels in its current edition, including House Of Pashma, Stoffa Shoes, Pam Mehta, Malini Ramani, Purva Chauhan and Raas Leela.
Dipali, a former make-up artist, has attended Bhagvad Gita classes for the last 15 years and believes in giving back to society. “It may pinch, but I ensure there’s space for NGOs. There’s so much money being spent in the festive season, it would be great if some of it goes towards helping a cause.”
She has also had a regular association with NGOs Prerna, run by Anuradha Gupta, and Vivek Bhushan’s Bhagta Bharat, which conducts races for underprivileged kids. “Students from Prerna help out with the registration and look after the stalls, earning pocket money in the bargain and getting exposure. Vivek Uncle has an export house and a part of the proceeds goes towards Bhagta Bharat, which helps children connect to sports. A healthy mind begins with a healthy body.”
Dipali holds her trunk show thrice a year, in March, August and October. We wish her more power!
